Allow local user to ftp to vsftp service. Solve the login incorrect problem!

I just ran into this irritating problem while trying to ftp from my mac to my Ubuntu machine. The service kept returning a login incorrect error and I was literally banging the keyboard to make sure I am pressing the pwd keys correctly! :-(

Then I tried to ssh with a copy n paste password and then the ssh worked just fine! But the CMD+V on the ftp command still didn't work!

After a bit of google research, I solve the problem as mentioned here.

I had to do a sudo vi /etc/vsftpd.conf and change the pam_service_name line to pam_service_name=ftp (I think it was vsftp before).

Then restart vsftp using sudo service vsftpd restart and the login worked just fine!
